(pyrotechnic engineering marvel)
- *NOTE DEVICE FAILURE CHECK (DC5 INT)
- save DC = 8+dex+prof
- Dex save vs 2D10 fire damage (save for half)
- range = 15ft x 5ft
- may empty reservoir to extend attack to adjacent space
- failed save indicates target is on fire (d10 damage per round)
- requires a save to extinguish the fire by smothering
- contact with water doubles burning damage for 1 round
Von Karsten's Spitfire consists of a hidden wrist-mounted nozzle attached to a sleeve reservoir that ignites a jet of flammable propellant, which is projected up to a distance of 15 feet, with a width of 5 feet...
The device takes 1 Full Action to use. It carries enough fluid for TWO uses -- OR may be used to attack 2 adjacent targets on the same turn. Due to the complexity of the design, a larger reservoir cannot be added.
The Spitfire deals 2d10 Fire damage + d10 additional burning damage each round afterward, until it can be extinguished.
Targets in the target area make a DCxx Dex Save for ½ damage. A failure means they are on fire. On their turn, they can decide to spend their Action to save again in order to extinguish or escape the flames.

The weapon is designed for use with Von Karsten’s fire resin concentrate. This substance actually burns hotter when it comes into contact with water. Throwing water on the flame will double the intensity of the burning (and the damage) for one round.
*FAILURE CHANCE*
- Any time it is used, make an DC5 INT check vs device failure.
- On a Fumble, it backfires on the user (+ random adjacent character).
- Field repair requires an Int/Tinkering check vs DC15
- This roll maybe be made once per short/long rest.
- Failure chance rises to DC10 after field repair.
- Full repair is DC20 and requires special tools/materials.
This variant form of Von Karsten’s Fire Resin is a special formulation to achieve the right consistency for airborne delivery.
Like the normal version, it is ignited through contact with water. It generates a more intense heat, but burns out faster. A keg contains 12 reloads for Von Karsten’s Spitfire device.
Von Karsten’s notes are erratic and likely purposefully oblique to protect his proprietary formula. Armed with these notes, an alchemist might attempt to duplicate the formulation, though the process could be both costly and hazardous.
