The FIVE OUTLANDER DISCIPLES

Master Wujin's Barbarian Prodigies

Over twenty years ago Wujin Shaolang, Divine Master of the Three Blossom Society,  decided that the organization needed to expand its reach beyond Tianxia. For this reason, he gathered five promising martial prodigies, each from a different distant western land, and took them on as his students. He hoped that one day, they could act as the Society's agents in the world beyond.

Some did not feel that foreigners should be welcomed into the Society, and took to calling them "the Five Barbarians." Even so, there could be no question regarding their talent. Master Wujin had selected his disciples well, for all five of them quickly became some of the most accomplished members of all three branches of the Society.

The HUNDRED CURSES

A S S A S S I N S  o f  T I A N X I A

Among the many warring clans of the martial underworld of Tianxia (that which is called the jianghu), the cabal of assassins known as the Hundred Curses is among the most fearsome and disreputable. This patchwork organization of renegades from across the Three Kingdoms and beyond is not unified by any sense of loyalty or moral tenet other than violence and profit.

A Meeting of Killers

( STORY )

from: CHAPTER THREE~ THE DELIVERY JOB characters: DRAGON-TAIL (pov), RED RAIN

It is early Autumn in the highlands of Kronaca. Two members of the Hundred Curses assassin clan, Dragon-Tail and Iron-Wind, set a building on fire, baiting Kuan Yan and his companions into a trap so they can obtain the Third Scripture of the Three Blossom Society. The trap has failed. Defeated by Mad Jack Tyrsson, Dragon-Tail is forced to flee, while Iron-Wind is killed in combat with Korvuus and Lonzo. Escaping into the night, Dragon-Tail must lick his wounds, but his defeat was witnessed by another member of the Hundred Curses, who soon after pays him a visit...

The LOGCUTTER

(exotic scimitar)

scimitar (d6 dam)

  • Brutal: this unusually heavy blade deals and additional +D4 damage
  • 19-20 Critical Threat: the serrated edge inflicts vicious wounds
  • Heavy: even as a one-handed weapon, Logcutter counts as Heavy
  • Unwieldy: requires STR 19+ to wield one-handed
  • Durable: advantage vs any breakage checks

The SLEEPING SWORD

aka The Fate-Changing Sword

magical / versatile / *bludgeoning
Longsword +l / +l (d8 / d10 damage)
  • may be wielded as a monk weapon
  • once per day, may cast Thunderwave, cost: l Focus
  • sword cannot be drawn from scabbard

This ancient Zhu-style wujian (longsword) is decorated with elaborate carvings that suggest a holy purpose. It is firmly sheathed in a matching scabbard wrought of an unknown bronze-like metal, which gives the impression that the sword and scabbard are made of one piece and material.

While still resembling a one-handed weapon, its proportions are unusual. The pommel and guard are almost comically robust. The sword's  length is prodigious, and its breadth is double that of other Zhu swords. In its heavy scabbard, the sword appears massive, exaggerated, and possibly only decorative. In spite of this, it feels remarkably light and well-balanced in the hand, even while remaining in its scabbard.

Attempts to draw the sword are unsuccessful. It seems like the scabbard and weapon are fused, meaning the sword can only be used for bludgeoning attacks.

Holding it, one has the impression that the sword hums slightly, a vibration running down its length, resonating with the user's own inner Chi force. This energy can be gathered and projected through the sword by a Chi-user.

Feng Yaoshi was entrusted with the Fate-Changing Sword, an ancient weapon of terrible power. Long ago, the Fate-Changing Sword was sealed into its scabbard, where its energies remained dormant. Feng was taught the Sleeping Saint Stance by the reclusive heretic Heartless Xiaolang of Cicada Island, which allowed him to channel the power of the Fate-Changing Sword (which has come to be called the Sleeping Sword).

CHI BURST ATTACK
d8 x Prof  damage  /  reach: 15'
xl / LR or SR -  cost: l Focus
DC(x) Con save vs damage and push/prone effect

Once per rest, at the cost of l Focus point, the sword can generate the equivalent of the Thunderwave spell effect in a 15-foot cube. Those in range make a CON save vs the wielder's Focus DC.

On a failed check, they take (D8 x Proficiency Bonus) Force damage, and are pushed 10ft away. A save check of less than 10 means they are also knocked prone.

On a save, they take half damage and are not pushed. Objects within range are also pushed away. The spell emits a thunderous boom as the air around the wielder is displaced.

FENG YAOSHI*

Ht: 6'  /  Wt: 165  /  Hair: black  /  Eyes: brown  /  Age: 39
Creed: Zhujin  /  Clan: Three Blossom Society  /  Status: *DECEASED
The man was unusually tall for an Eastlander and strikingly handsome; his features were symmetrical, smooth, and refined like an idealized scroll painting, but with a chiseled jaw and masculine furrow in his brow. His black hair was long, flowing loose about his shoulders, and his dusky yellow robes hung open at the chest, exposing a toned, coppery muscularity. The swordsman reclined lazily on the steps of the small pavillion, with a sly smirk across his face and a cup of wine raised in one hand.
