Jonquiere de Gevaude is a figure of ill repute across Duatha, better known as the “Blight Doctor" and the infamous “Poisoner of Montcreux."
Gevaude initially gained notoriety thirty years ago, as a chirurgen and alchemist accused of practicing his black arts upon waylaid labourers and pilgrims, with grisly results. Gevaude evaded justice and quickly disappeared.

Twenty-five years ago, Gevaude surfaced again, this time in the employ of the Baron de Mortlac, a Londais noble accused of a litany of unspeakable acts. Besieged by wardens of the Clarion Throne, the fallen baron was finally burned alive in his own keep, along with his followers and captives.
Sadly, Gevaude seemingly survived this fate as well. He would continue to elude authorities for several more years, leaving a trail of atrocities in his wake. Rumors of witchcraft and black magic were soon added to his list of crimes.

Post-War Period and the Montcreux Maladie
Stories circulated of Gevaude selling his services clandestinely during the period of unrest following the Regicide. Had he been more discreet, he might have weathered this turbulent period and been forgotten amid the founding of the new Empire of Kaspar. However, the height of his infamy was yet to come.
All of Delon was rocked by the news that the fortified town of Montcreux, including its environs and an Imperial garrison, had perished in its entirety from a hideous malady. This unidentied affliction infected humans, livestock, and even plants, seemingly destroying them from the inside out. To this very day, the valley of Montcreux remains a poisonous, accursed place.
It soon after emerged that this plague had been of Jonquiere de Gevaude's own making, a blight wrought by his forbidden science. In the ensuing strife, it's said he took advantage of the panic to enact further unholy experiments on any survivors he found in Montcreux.
For these crimes, a standing bounty of 500 Imperial Phoenixes was placed on his head, dead or alive.

The Company of the Hook
After Montcreux, Gevaude was said to have fallen in with the feared mercenary and pirate Goran Akulyavic di Frezzi. Gevaude became a member of di Frezzi's Company of the Hook, and for several years, terrorized the Helicosian coast aboard the slave-ship, El Tiburon.
Horrific stories began to circulate of the fiendish doctor who sailed with di Frezzi, providing his services as an alchemist and apothecary in return for the protection of the Company, as well as a steady supply of test subjects.
Gevaude was apprehended when the Tiburon was taken by the mercenary hero Mad Jack Tyrson, sailing with the Grey Stripes militia out of Ladroa.

Against impossible odds, Tyrson's crew defeated di Frezzi's Company of the Hook, but were unable to locate the Blight Doctor. Reportedly Gevaude was finally discovered trying to escape by wearing another sailor's face which he had carved off the original owner. Gevaude was subsequently captured and summarily executed by Tyrson's own hand.
