PROFILE
Kalkeus is a burly Dwarf with blackened skin like cracked obsidian with a smoldering inferno burning within him. Thanks to his Primordial lineage, he has become one with the blasting heat of the volcanic core that churns beneath Mount Donnerquell, and its elemental fires have kindled inside him.
When Amadeo Bronzanti wrested control of the mountain from the Dwarves who dwelled there, he spared but two of them - brothers Dunayir and Uri. He recognized in them strong magical Primordial blood that he could exploit, and in return for their lives, both brothers swore eternal servitude to the mage. Dunayir became ASTRAPIOS, the keeper of Bronzanti's lightning-capturing machines, while Uri became KALKEUS, the master of Bronzanti's forge.
Kalkeus is a master smith and metalworker, using his fae talents to work the primal fires and forge strange new alloys. He has a symbiotic connection with the Great Furnace, and can bend its fury to his will. His connection to the fire has made him something more than dwarf... more than mortal.
However, some part of him remains mortal. When Bronzanti turned an injured human girl into EMPUSA, Kalkeus was smitten at the sight the poor pathetic maiden, and offered a fragment of his burning elemental heart to sustain her. Now she is a being of fire like him, which to Kalkeus makes them a perfect match. Sadly, this fire burns in one direction only, and Empusa sees him only as a leering, ugly little man.
Kalkeus also possesses a magical Forge Hammer which, in his expert grip, can be used to magically reforge or unmake any metal things wrought by lesser hands.
