CRYSTAL SWORD of BRONZANTI

(magic greatsword)
Cyron Era greatsword made of Faerie Glass
(2d8 dam)

  • +l to hit / +l damage
  • slashing / magical / heavy / two-handed
  • adamantine: nigh-unbreakable, overcomes most DR, auto-crits vs objects
  • spell-container glyphs: holds l spell, 8th level max, casting time up to 1 Action
  • (NEW) spells requiring Concentration will last full duration so long as sword is retained

A mighty greatsword with a broader blade, a narrow crosshilt, and a slightly shorter grip, as if designed to be optionally wielded in a single hand by someone very, very strong. Indeed, while the weapon in total is no lighter than a conventional greatsword, one would have expected expect a weapon of these dramatic proportions to be far heavier.

The blade itself is made of Faerie Glass of an exceptionally hard and pure grade, with a honed razor-sharp edge. In some light, the blade is almost invisible, but for the ancient inscriptions near the base.

Faerie Glass will not chip or wear, except in contact with comparable materials. The sword is considered adamantine, and therefore inflicts critical damage when used against objects made of lesser materials. This also permits the sword to ignore most forms of materials-based Damage Reduction.

Bronzanti created this blade at the height of his craft, and intended it as a weapon that could be used against the Gods themselves. The blade has not been tested against a true god, but against a fallen Titan like Khors of the Moon, the theory has born out.

Spell Storage:
Due to its exotic materials and magical glyphs, this sword is capable of acting as a container for spell of up to 8th level with a casting time of 1 Action or less. The spell can then be unleashed by the wielder by speaking an incantation. This does not consume a spell-slot from the wielder, and can even be activated by a non-caster, given the right instruction.

Spells once activated from the sword retain their original casting time (up to 1 Action). Spells with a longer casting time can only be successfully activated by an arcane caster who is familiar with the stored spell.

The incantation to activate the stored spell is very much a simple trigger. Spells requiring complex or situational mechanics cannot be effectively deployed by the sword (example: Counterspell, Summons without a pre-determined subject, etc). For the most part, contained spells are limited to basic, instantaneous effects and targeted spells.

When activated by a non-caster, spells that require Concentration will last only up to a single round. If the sword is wielded by a caster, these spells will automatically last their full duration. The spell effect does not require full Concentration, but must be guided by a wielder who is capable of magical Concentration. Even so, to maintain any effect, the caster must retain constant contact with the sword. Any Concentration-based effects will end if the sword leaves the caster's hand.

Re-investing the sword with a fresh spell requires the expenditure of an appropriate matching spell-slot. However, the investiture process requires a ritual, and therefore will take at least 10 minutes to perform.
