JASON de NOIREAUX

a mysterious gentleman...

Chevalier   J A S O N   de   N O I R E A U X
herald, courtier, spy
---------------------------------
Ht: 6'  /  Wt: 195  /  Hair: black-grey  /  Eyes: blue  /  Age: 45  /  Creed: ?

APPEARANCE

Noireaux appears as a handsome, athletic, and well-groomed man in his early 40s.  His tousled black hair is streaked with some grey, and he has a neatly-trimmed beard that is growing out. He wears high-quality travelling clothes, sturdy boots, and a poshly-tailored black studded leather jerkin. At his waist he wears a side-sword and a silver-pommeled dagger.

Noireaux smiles easily, but his eyes are steely and always alert. Despite his urbane and gentlemanly presentation, one gets the impression that he's been around, and knows how to handle himself.

PROFILE

Little is known about Jason de Noireaux. He orginally presented himself as a gentleman courier in service to the Principalities of Delon, but later dropped his Londais accent in favour of a thick Kaelish borderlands brogue. It seems unlikely that Noireaux his real name.

Money is no object to Noireaux - he readily handed over 400gp in coin and gemstones to secure Jack Tyrsson's services - a distraction he exploited fruitfully.

Although he favours misdirection over confrontation, he is a highly capable combatant. After the incident at the Condor Gate Inn, two Dark Elf corpses testified to his handiwork. Both were dispatched quickly and with precision, indicating a swordsman of remarkable ability.

Noireaux moves with surprising swiftness and athleticism when he needs to. He is exceptionally stealthy, evading even Kian Grey's sharp senses in the night. He plunged undaunted into a snowbound forest under harsh conditions to complete his escape, while still covering his tracks effectively.

He apparently has some experience with arcane matters. When the Servitor of Saint Ingehild attempted to read him, he recognized and rebuffed the attempt. He was versed enough in Faerie language to (haltingly) persuade the Hobgoblin captive to cooperate with him, and knew precisely what questions to ask the creature.

First impressions of Noireaux suggested that he might be a fixer or a money man. It is now clear he is something much more, and not to be underestimated. He is versatile, competent, highly motivated, and extremely dangerous.

NOTES

Noireaux was waiting at the Condor Gate Inn to rendezvous with a group of co-conspirators, with the goal of  intercepting the secret Imperial prisoner convoy. Once it was clear his backup would not arrive in time, he secured the services of Jack Tyrsson and his comrades as mercenary bodyguards.

In the ensuing chaos, Noireaux took the opportunity to slip away and locate his true objective - the captive Faerie creature being transported by the Vollstreckorden (the Wolfounds) to the Imperial fort at Condor Gate Redoubt.

Once found the Hobgoblin, he was able to coax a name from it - the purported 'true name' of a powerful dark Faerie known as the Gweddillion - believed to be responsible for the Clarion Regicide 12 years ago. After obtaining this, he wrung the small creature's neck, and stole away into the night undetected... or so he thought.

This event was witnessed by two others... Korvuus' talking crow, Hreth, and an injured Vollstreckorden recruit (who it was assumed did not understand the Noireaux's conversation in the Faerie tongue). Surprisingly, Noireaux spared the man and departed, leaving the Hobgoblin's corpse behind.

Noireaux's motives and allegiances remain mysterious. It's unclear whether his actions served his own interests or were undertaken in service to another. Was his objective to undermine the Kasparian Empire, or was that simply incidental to his own designs?

It must be assumed the arcane knowledge he gained can be used to access the power of the Gweddillion for some unrevealed purpose.
