(EXOTIC ARMOUR)
This armoured scale coat is constructed with hardened chitin shell fragments collected from giant predatory isopods. The chitin is of similar durability and weight as steel, and the shell fragments have been dyed and crafted into a unique reinforced jack and scaled surcoat that functions similarly to a coat of plates or scale armor.
- scaled coat - light armour - AC14 +2 dex (max)
- composed of organic chitin; suitable for Druids
- no Stealth penalty
This chitin coat was commissioned by the druid Korvuus at considerable expense due to his aversion to metal-based garments. After encountering giant isopods in the subterranean Forest of Bone under San Belamo, he theorized that the hard insect chitin could provide a suitable alternative to standard metal protective plates.
The style of the surcoat follows follows an aesthetic civilian style, based on Korvuus' notes to the armourer. Each plate has been carefully etched with decorative patterns on a natural motif (insects, thorny vines, tree roots). The result is ostentatious in its own right, but at a glance, this decorative coat does not necessarily look like armour at all.
The scales and plates are carefully integrated into a leather backing that reduces friction, which makes the coat flexible and relatively quiet to move in, although it remains rather heavy for daily wear. It has sustained minor wear and tear in the field, but nothing that cannot be repaired.
