Elke is a sister of the Varantine Order, steward of the Schola Santa-Vara Infirmary, and the personal apprentice of Doctor-Curate Cardena Dela Vara. Like most members of the Varantine Order, she is also secretly a member of the Vaara race (called vampires by some).
Elke is tall, shapely, and strikingly beautiful. She resembles a woman in her late teens, with fair skin, full lips, and wide expressive eyes. Her long hair is the colour of red autumn leaves, although it usually covered by the wimple and plain garments of the Varantine sorority.
Although still young by the standards of her people, Elke is a skilled physician. Her education has been holistic while studying under Lady Cardena Dela Vara, with proficiency in chirurgy, chemistry, embalming, as well as the administrative arts. One day, she may expect to head up a chapter of the Varantine Schola herself, but for now she acts as the indispensable aide to the current Doctor-Curate.
Elke is the younger sister of Valke, her junior by almost sixty years. Despite their family resemblance, the two could hardly be more different in their manner. Studious, soft-spoken, and empathetic, Elke exudes a serene calm and quiet competency.
It is unknown how proficient Elke is in the Blood Magic of her people. Even when under threat, she has not manifested any supernatural abilities. Among the Vaara, the Marevnas were an old aristocratic line, but unlike her sisters and her mentor Cardena, Elke has chosen to focus on the healer's path rather than a martial one.
In addition to her other duties at the Schola, she also assists the Lady Dela Vara in her covert activities as a Mariscal of Ladroa, although only in a support capacity.
