An amulet in the shape of a white face with black lips. The reverse side of the amulet has a glyph inscribed on it, and the amulet opens to reveal a reservoir for facepaint.
This mystical object allows a wearer who commits to the rituals of the Hush to become muted - visually, acoustically, and spiritually.
After applying the monochrome greasepaint contained within, the magic begins to gradually take effect. If the wearer abstains from speech and makes no loud noises for one full hour, then a veil of silence descends upon them. Their movements are muffled, their appearance becomes indistinct, and even their sense of physical presence feels diminished.
Once the spell is fully in effect, the wearer receives a +5 to all Stealth checks, so long as they do not speak or utter a sound. Even peripheral actions that might normally create noise (such as picking a lock or garroting a sentry) will also tend to be somewhat suppressed.
Additionally, in a situation where concealment is only determined by sound (not sight or scent) the wearer may roll their Stealth check with Advantage.
Surprisingly, the Hush also conveys a degree of social camouflage onto the wearer, who despite wearing full chalkface, can usually move unobtrusively through public environments. Instead, they appear as unremarkable, vague, and forgettable.

This effect has no clear time limit, but can usually be maintained until the wearer's next Long Rest. However, as soon as the wearer speaks a single word aloud, or vocalizes in any way, the spell is broken.
