In a misty vale deep within Arvanna the One-Forest, there exists a hidden Faerie sanctuary called Sonbahar~Ryasil. In this place, the strange and autumnal Lord Vermillion serves as liege and protector to the Sylvan Elves there...

Vermillion towers above other Elves, his stature being a sign of great longevity. While his appearance suggests a Sylvan noble, he retains a potent aura of otherworldly grandeur that marks him as something more... a scion of one of the great houses of Faerie, or perhaps even a minor Archfae.

The true extent of Vermillion's personal power is unknown. His control over the elements within his realm suggests a mastery of the Warping and Wending Faerie magics. Sonbahar~Ryasil itself may be both a demi-plane, and also an extension of Lord Vermillion's own being. He has shown the ability to manifest its presence around him at will, or to draw others into this liminal space. He possesses supernatural sight that penetrates illusions and can perceive a creature's true form. He has claimed also to be able to see the 'threads of fate' that twine around individuals.

Lord Vermillion's manner is mild, verging on listless. When he smiles, it is always with a hint of enervated melancholy. He has insinuated that his autumnal domain, caught in the perpetual warming hues of sunset, is a reflection of his own nostalgia for a better age now long past, before the Fae of Duatha became instead the Fading Folk.

The Sylvan champion, Naetharion, the Viridian Knight, is sworn to Vermillion's service - as both bodyguard and as the marshal of Sonbahar~Ryasil's forces.

Description

Vermillion's voice is rich and sonorous, seemingly speaking all languages at once (perhaps by way of telepathy). His skin is the colour of wheat, and his eyes shimmer gold. His hair is long and flowing in coppery waves, topped with a crown of leaves and wreathed with faerie lights that twinkle lazily. From his head sprouts two twisting tree branches resembling antlers.

His robes are decorated in leaf patterns of vibrant red, burnt orange, golden yellow and earthy russet. His countenance is handsome, benevolent, and mature. Although his features betray few overt signs of physical aging, he carries about him a hint of world-weariness.

Recent History

During their adventures in the Realm of the Moonfae, the party of Jack Tyrsson began to suspect that  Lord Vermillion, who had sent them on their quest, was in fact the Dusk Prince of ancient lore, creator of the curse known as the Red Spite. Subsequent encounters with the Dusk Prince seemed to confirm these suspicions.

More recently, they have come to believe that the true Lord Vermillion was merely duped and impersonated by the Dusk Prince (as a ruse to collect those fragments of his physical self left behind in the Silvered Realm). Having warned Lord Vermillion of the Dusk Prince's schemes, they left Sonbahar-Ryasil on peaceful terms.
